ONTV makes waves
The New Zealand Television Broadcasters' Council has hailed the success of its inaugural ONTV Conference on Television and Advertising held on Auckland on 18 April.
The all day event attracted over 250 delegates from advertisers, agencies and broadcasters. The NZTBC's executive director, Bruce Wallace said the conference was a sellout and people had to be turned away. He said that both the four international speakers and many of the attendees reported the success of the event.
The ONTV Conference was staged to showcase the value of television as an advertising medium. The case studies presented by the speakers provided a graphic demonstration of the effectiveness of television as a builder of brands.
With endorsement from CAANZ representing the advertising agencies, and ANZA representing the interests of advertisers, the conference was the first such initiative undertaken by the New Zealand Television Broadcasters' Council to address television's declining share of the total advertising spend.
NZTBC Executive Director Bruce Wallace said television broadcasters needed to grow their share of the advertising dollar in order to maintain their relevance as television channels telling the stories of New Zealand and providing an important service to advertisers and viewers.
"Without a successful commercial base, the free to air broadcasters' ability to sustain their investment in quality local programming will come under threat."
